I have clearly not been scouring the web well enough over the past few months. I try to find out what is going on in the world of Byzantium, but missed this exhibition Byzanz: Pracht und Alltag (Byzantium: Splendour and Everyday Life ) which ran (it is now finished) at the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Bonn, Germany, from 26 February to 13 June.
It would appear to have been a small Byzantine exhibition, but some of the usual icon suspects appear to have been present. The exhibition included a large-scale model of a Byzantine galley and a model of the Hippodrome developed by the team at the Byzantium 1200 project (follow this link to enter the world of Constantinople). This video (no sound) is worth a watch just to wallow momentarily in some beautiful art and objects. In this world, at this time, we need a good wallow!
