Byzantologists from Japan, China and 36 more countries will attend XXII International Byzantium Studies Congress ‘Byzantium without Borders’ in Sofia between August 22 and 27, academician Vasil Gyuzelev, chairman of the organizational committee of the congress, said in an interview with FOCUS News Agency.

From Focus.

1,176 scientists from 38 countries have registered so far.

“Undoubtedly, Greek participants will be the largest group. They account for about one fifth of all participants. There are big groups from Russia and the U.S. the European countries will be represented also by France, Germany, Italy and Austria. Austria is a small country, but its Byzantium studies are very well developed and its Byzantium center is one of the best in the world,” he said and noted that all Balkans countries in addition to Georgia, Armenia, Canada and Azerbaijan would have participants.
