  1. I’d hardly say Russia have imploded in the same way as the Byzantine Empire has, though there are parallels. And while Byzantium shifted hegemony across the empire – not just Istanbul – the seat of Russian power has always rested firmly in Moscow (which is a fantastic place to visit, by the way).
